3 Local Albums I Didn’t Review…

but I should have…

So, despite the fact that I write a lot of reviews, sometimes there are things that I want to review, but I can’t do it in a timely manner, and then I put it off, and then it starts to become work, and then I get all weird about it and ultimately it just never gets done…

Well anyways, I figured, since I’m starting to put this dusty ol’ website to work, I’d start by shouting out a few of those albums that I found this year that I never got around to reviewing and now I feel bad about it because they’re quite good. So here are the three albums that I feel most guilty about not reviewing this year!

Vorna - “Aamunkoi”

I’ve been guilty about this one for a while, because it came out quite early in the year and it’s fantastic… that perfect moody Finnish metal with magical soundscapes to really draw you in. This is a definite don’t-miss album from the Finnish metal scene in 2023 and I particularly recommend that you listen to the whole album straight-through.

Emmy June - “The Spring”

If you had asked me if I like indie folk music a year ago, I’d have told you it was one of my least favorite genres. However, after hearing artists like Emmy June, especially live, I’m really starting to develop an appreciation for it. The storied nature of the songs, the emotional instrumental accompaniment, jazzy bits, and the moving vocals all make this album very worth checking out!

Vies Vignette - “Among & Around”

There’s not a lot of information about this act online, so don’t have much to say about them beyond that I discovered them when they were playing before another show I saw this year. I enjoy the quirky, jazzy, fun flow of their music—which even goes into a full mad circus at one point. The cherry on the top of this release is the wonderful use of saxophone.
