“The Clock Ticks So Loud (When You’re Gone)”

Back in 2009, I was visiting a friend who had to step out for a moment and left me alone in his apartment. It was not long after he left that I realized, for the first time, that he had a clock on the wall, because I had never registered the ticking of the hands while we were hanging out. This immediately brought songs like “Ain’t No Way to Go” by Brooks ‘n’ Dunn and “Lonely Nights” by Scorpions to mind, and I immediately sat down and wrote this song with those two in mind, spiritually. This is the end result!

“THE CLOCK TICKS SO LOUD (WHEN YOU’RE GONE)”

I woke up this morning all by myself
No trace of you left in sight
Everything was gone like you'd never been here
You snuck out like a thief in the night

And this place looks so empty without you
It's a ghost house and I'm all alone
I only ever wanted to please you
You were the only love I've ever known

And baby, the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
Every second is a knife to my heart
Oh baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
And I feel like I'm falling apart

I used to wake up with you in my arms
Now I'm feeling so damned bereft
Everything is fading away it seems
Never heard a minute pass 'til you left

And this place looks so empty without you
It's a ghost house and I'm all alone
I only ever wanted to please you
You were the only love I've ever known

And baby, the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
Every second is a knife to my heart
Oh baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
And I feel like I'm falling apart

Girl, I know I've never been perfect
But you have to know I tried
I swear I never meant to hurt you
Still you left without saying goodbye

And baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
Every second is a knife to my heart
Oh baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
And I feel like I'm falling apart

Oh baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
Yeah every second is a knife to my heart
Oh baby the clock ticks so loud when you're gone
And I feel like I'm falling apart
Yeah I feel like I'm falling apart
I don't know where to start
You ran away with my heart...
Baby I'm just falling apart...
