Off the Record with Timo Kurkela
The self-titled 2020 album by Altamullan Road has really been a gift to the world for a variety of reasons, but today it’s because, through their 2024 live tour, it introduced me to Timo Kurkela, Johanna Kurkela’s brother, who played guitar and sang backing vocals. Despite having had few direct interactions with him myself, my friend Kathy Criswell had had the chance to chat with him a bit and assured me that he gave off a similar vibe to that of his sister: warm and really genuinely nice to talk to. After the release of his latest single, “Nuori Sydän,” which coincided with a desire to get a few interviews under my belt all at once, it seemed like a good time to reach out and see if he’d like to chat with me about music for a while.
I really enjoyed this interview, particularly after the halfway point, when the discussion turns for a while towards the difficulties artists and creators encounter. There are a lot of reminders in this interview to find your own pace and balance, and to take care of yourself and rest, which is extremely important.
Thanks for checking it out, and please do the usual subs and shares if you want to see more of these in the future!
